For thousands of years muskox, or umingmak, have survived in the Canadian
arctic. They are protected from the harsh winters by a thick
undercoat of downy soft hair called qiviuq (ki-vee-uk).
Qiviuq is harvested from wild muskox by the Inuvialuit people
living in Canada's remote western arctic and processed into
rare and luxurious yarns.
Qiviuq or qiviut is offered in all its forms. Look for skeined yarn, exclusive
Folknit-designed knitting kits and finished knitwear.
